Annamaet is a holistic dog food brand that aims at providing high-quality dog foods designed at improving a dog’s overall health. They use carefully sourced ingredients from sources that have not had a history of contamination. Annamaet is proud to claim that humans can even consume the ingredients that they use.

The owners of Annamaet have devoted years of studying and testing to determine what ratio of ingredients and what types of ingredients would provide an optimal health source to dogs. Annamaet is another dog food company, though, that risks getting overlooked due to being a small family run business.

Who Manufactures Annamaet Dog Food?

Annamaet was founded by Rob Downey, who has dedicated years studying dog health and nutrition, and his wife, Mary Jo, a dog lover all around. The company is named after Rob Downey’s mother, Anna Mae, whose love for animals is what inspired Rob Downey to pursue his dedication to animals.

Annamaet dog food is manufactured under Annamaet Petfoods Inc. based in Sellersville, Pennsylvania in the United States of America. All of their ingredients are sourced in the USA to ensure optimal quality control and trusted sources.

Recall History of Annamaet Dog Food

As of writing this article Annamaet dog food has had no history or recall. This is overwhelmingly positive as the company has been active since 1986, making the company 32 years old. Having no recall history can be accredited to the company using strict quality control regulations.

All of their ingredients are tested before reaching the manufacturing plant to prevent any tainted ingredients from entering the manufacturing plant and potentially contaminating other components in the location. They are strict when they mean all the ingredients are of human-grade quality. Their extra effort to ensure quality control and safety is well worth the long history of no recalls.

Different Formulas/Options

Annamaet separates their formulas into two categories, with grains and grain-free. Annamaet grain-free helps pet owners who own dogs with grain allergies avoid accidentally causing an allergic reaction.

But if your dog is not allergic to grains than you can happily feed your dog the grain formula as the grains used are beneficial to dogs rather than serving as only a filler ingredient. Let’s go over the differences between the two formulas as well as the food options available under each one.

Grain Formulas

The grain formula line is the original formula that Annamaet opened their doors selling. Brown Rice, Millet, Rolled Oats, and Pearled Barley is the main grains that Annamaet uses in their grain formulas. These grains are hearty and wholesome, meaning that they serve a purpose towards benefitting your dog’s overall health instead of merely being used as a filler ingredient.

Your dog will get healthy carbs, starches, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that these grains naturally offer. And even though Annamaet uses grains, they do not use wheat, soy, or corn products. The following is a list of options to choose from under the Annamaet grain formula line.

  • Adult Formula
  • Encore Formula
  • Extra Formula
  • Option Formula
  • Ultra Formula
  • Original Puppy Formula
  • Small Breed Formula

Grain-Free Formulas

Annamaet started to make this formula line so that dogs with grain allergies can still enjoy their foods. Field Peas, Lentils, Potato, and Tapioca, are used instead of grains. They are still wholesome ingredients that provide similar nutritional content grains do without the allergy-triggering side-effects.

But even if your dog is not allergic to grains, you can still feed your dog this formula option. In that case, it would be a food preference rather than a health need. Below is a list of food options under the Annamaet grain-free formula line.

  • Lean
  • Aqualuk
  • Salcha
  • Manitok
  • Annamaet Sustain
  • Annamaet Ohana Puppy
  • Annamaet Rejuvenate Senior

Treats

Annamaet also offers treats. Annamaet uses the same quality ingredients in their dog food formulas to make the treats. The crunchy biscuits are slowly baked and are all grain-free so that any dog can enjoy them. These are the treats Annamaet offers dogs.

  • Salcha Canine Companion
  • Lean Canine Companion
  • Aqualuk Canine Companion

Key Ingredients

Protein

Annamaet uses a variety of animal proteins in their formulas to help dog owners avoid any allergen ingredients and to provide some variety to your dogs. Some dogs may not care about eating the same flavor of dog food all the time, but others might.

So having a dog food brand that uses a variety of animal proteins can add that diversity dogs may crave. As a plus, all of the animal meats are sourced in the USA and are of a human-grade level. The proteins Annamaet uses are:

  • Chicken
  • Menhaden Fish
  • Salmon
  • Lamb
  • Dry Eggs
  • Herring
  • Duck
  • Cod
  • Turkey
  • Whitefish
  • Silver Carp

Fats

Since Annamaet uses an animal protein as the first ingredient in their formulas your dog will have access to a natural fat source that will help them maintain healthy body weight. Chicken fat is added to many of their formulas though, specifically the ones that use a leaner animal protein, to make up for the reduced fat content.

Carbohydrates

Annamaet uses millets and rolled oats as their primary carbohydrate source. These are wholesome ingredients that benefit dogs rather than only supply them with a high sugar source. For the formulas that do not include grains, Annamaet uses pea flour and other natural starchy fruits and vegetables to supply the carbohydrate levels.

Ash

Ash is the non-burnable or combustible minerals left over after food is burned during the cooking process. Some pet food manufacturers consider ash a true filler ingredient.

Dogs only require a low amount of ash in their diets for trace minerals their bodies need while the rest is deemed to be useless to dogs. Annamaet has a low ash content to ensure your dogs are getting the amount that they need without it being an overwhelming amount that will not benefit your dog.

Some dogs are prone to gaining weight faster than other dogs, so if your dog is prone to gaining excess weight try feeding them Annamaet Grain-Free Lean Formula to help them slim down.

Key Features

  • Protein Content—30%
  • Fat Content—9%
  • Fiber Content—7%
  • Ash Content—7.5%

Obesity is the number one health issue plaguing dogs today. Obesity in dogs is mainly caused by a poor diet and lack of daily exercise, much how obesity is amongst us. Like us, obesity can be controlled and reduced in dogs by eating healthy foods.

Annamaet consulted with veterinary nutritionists to develop a high protein and low-fat diet known as Annamaet Lean. The combination of carnitine, Omega 3 fatty acids, and lower fiber content is ideal for helping pet owners control their dog’s weight issues.  Annamaet Grain-Free Lean Formula has two different feeding instructions right on the bag.

One is for pet owners who usually have active dogs that want to keep their dog fit; these are the “normal feeding directions” pet owners can use. The second set of feeding directions are labeled “obese prone feeding instructions” that are for dogs who are prone to gaining weight quickly or are struggling to lose the extra weight.

Aside from helping dogs maintain their weight, this formula has been helpful for large breed dogs and dogs suffering from pancreatitis or blood lipid issues.

  • Reduced-fat formula to help maintain a healthy and lean body
  • Contains all the beneficial nutrients other formulas include
  • Free of grains, wheat, soy, and corn products
  • It comes in 5 lb., 15 lb., and 30 lb. bag option

Cons

  • Contains chicken and duck so not an ideal formula for dogs with poultry allergies

Key Features

  • Protein Content—26%
  • Fat Content—16%
  • Fiber Content—3.5%
  • Ash Content—7.5%

Annamaet Extra Formula contains a slightly higher fat content compared to other formula lines. Because of that, this particular formula is perfect for active dogs, dog athletes, working dogs, and large breed dogs that burn calories fast.

The brown rice and rolled oats provide a healthy carbohydrate source and extra starch to maintain healthy energy levels. Even though the formula uses grains, it does not contain corn, wheat, or soy, for dogs who have known sensitivities to the ingredients.

To better maintain your dog’s figure L-Carnitine is added as it helps a dog’s body use fat content properly. Added prebiotics provide microbiome for gut health and support gastrointestinal health. To better ensure that your dog absorbs as many nutrients as possible, chelated minerals are added.

This diet is not limited to age either. Dogs of all sizes and ages can enjoy this formula as long as they are an active dog or they risk gaining unnecessary weight. But as long as your dog is active, they can enjoy this formula offered by Annamaet.

When considering trying out Annamaet for your dog feed them the original Annamaet Adult Dog Formula to get them started.

 Key Features

  • Protein Content—23%
  • Fat Content—10%
  • Fiber Content—4%
  • Ash Content—7.5%

If your dog has an average activity level, this diet will benefit them. The Adult Dog Formula is designed for less active dogs and older dogs that have a slower metabolism. It contains less animal protein, which means less fat and a reduced risk of your dog gaining excess weight.

L-Carnitine further helps dogs maintain a healthy weight and leaner body. The included marine microalgae supplies a stable and sustainable natural source of Omega 3 fatty acids which is ideal for healthy skin and fur. As with any growing dog, they need nutrients to develop proper brain functions. DHA is added to promote brain health and help reduce inflammation throughout the body.

Dogs around one year of age should be able to eat this diet and thrive from it. There is a weight limit though. The formula can only support dogs up to 70 lbs as beyond that another formula will be needed. But if your dog is under 70 lbs. they should be fine to eat this formula. In fact, they can eat it throughout their lifetime, even as senior dogs.

Pros

  • The perfect diet for adult dogs with a medium activity level
  • Free of corn, wheat, and soy products
  • Contains a generous amount of fruits and vegetables for a natural vitamin and mineral source
  • Available in 5 lb., 15 lb., 30 lb., and 40 lb. bag options

Cons

  • Contains grains so not ideal for dogs who have allergies to grains
  • Chicken meal is the first ingredient so is not a suitable diet for dogs with poultry allergies
  • Uses outside artificial supplements

Annamaet Adult Dog Formula is an excellent option to start with if you want a well-balanced nutritional diet for your adult dog.
